Brass quick-release valves allow you to quickly shut off and open the flow of water or other liquids in a boat's plumbing without tools - brass is a particularly reliable material choice for boat use, as it withstands both salt water and constant moisture without rusting.
The basic brass quick-action tap (3/4") fits most common water system shut-off points. Three-way taps allow flow to be directed in multiple directions from the same point, and the range includes several sizes and flow types: a 1/2 inch model with R10-R32 thread, a larger 1¼ inch tap with both L-flow and T-flow, as well as 1 inch and 1/2 inch T-flow models, and a smaller 3/8 inch T-flow tap. The smallest quick-action tap (1/4") is suitable for thinner hoses and lower flows, for example in connection with instruments or smaller pumps.
L-flow and T-flow differ in how the flow is distributed within the faucet – a T-flow faucet allows fluid to be directed in three directions simultaneously, while an L-flow faucet only directs flow in two directions at a time. Choosing the right faucet size and flow type depends on the piping layout and whether the system needs to be able to shut off one or more lines simultaneously. The advantage of brass quick-action faucets over plastic parts is better durability in long-term use and UV exposure, although they are slightly heavier and more expensive.
The durability of brass quick-action faucets is based on the material's inherent corrosion resistance, but moving mechanisms in the faucet's internal parts, such as ball valves, should still be moved regularly during the season to prevent them from jamming during long periods of non-use. The choice of L- and T-flow models of a three-way faucet depends on the needs of the system: T-flow allows liquid to be directed in more directions at the same time, which is useful for switching between two water tanks without a separate shut-off valve for each line, for example. The smaller 1/4-inch faucet is well suited for thinner instrument lines, while the larger sizes are intended for main water supply lines. It is recommended to use a suitable sealant on the threads during installation to ensure that the connection remains tight even during vibration and temperature fluctuations.

The T-flow pattern of the three-way valve allows fluid to be directed in three directions simultaneously, which is useful in multi-line systems.
