Suosittelemme sinulle

The right oil for your Yamaha outboard is the single most important factor in the longevity of your engine – both engine oil and gear oil must be selected according to the manufacturer's recommendations to ensure optimal lubrication, wear protection and engine performance throughout its life.

Quicksilver FC-W 10W-40 is a widely compatible four-stroke engine oil that meets the quality requirements of most outboard manufacturers, including Yamaha – available in both 1 litre and 4 litre packages to suit your needs. Yamaha’s own Yamalube brand has a range of specialist oils: SAE90 gear oil is available in both mineral-based (250ml and 1L) and GL5 rated for more heavy-duty use (1L). Yamalube Hydraulic Oil (1L) is designed for filling and servicing the hydraulic trim and tilt systems of outboard motors. Yamalube 4-T is Yamaha’s fully synthetic 10W30 engine oil, available in both 1 litre and 5 litre packages – fully synthetic oil offers better wear protection and heat resistance than mineral oil, especially in heavy summer use.

When choosing oil, it is advisable to follow the manufacturer's recommendations regarding both viscosity (e.g. 10W40 or 10W30) and quality classification (FC-W), as the wrong oil can impair lubrication or even damage the engine in the long term. The change interval for gear oil is typically less frequent than for engine oil, but it should still not be forgotten, as the drive gear is exposed to constant mechanical stress. The full-load Yamalube 4-T is a recommended choice, especially for boats that are used a lot or under heavy loads.

Yamalube oils are specifically formulated to meet the requirements of Yamaha engines, but Quicksilver FC-W rated oils are equally approved for most 4-stroke engines regardless of make – the choice between these is often a matter of taste, as long as the viscosity and quality rating match the manufacturer’s recommendations. The GL5 rating for gear oil means higher pressure resistance than standard mineral oil, which is especially beneficial for hard-to-use drives. The cleanliness of the hydraulic oil is critical to the operation of the trim and tilt system – dirty or incorrect hydraulic oil can cause the system to be sluggish or, in the worst case, completely malfunction. Fully synthetic 4-stroke oil is the recommended choice, especially for boats that are used a lot or under heavy loads, as it can withstand heat and stress better than mineral oil over a longer period of time.

Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations for viscosity and quality rating to maintain optimal engine lubrication.

The transmission oil change interval is typically less frequent than engine oil, but it should still not be forgotten in the maintenance plan.
