Oars and paddles are basic equipment for a rubber boat, which should always be with you – even when the boat is mainly used with the engine, because if the engine dies or you run out of gas, the oars may be the only way to get back to shore.

A telescopic paddle is a popular choice for inflatable boats, as it saves space when folded – the range includes Talamex's black telescopic paddle and a universal 55-130cm adjustable model. Osculat's 160cm aluminium paddle in white is a more traditional, fixed-length option, which is lightweight but durable in its choice of materials. Velcro's Combi paddle (1.5m, red) combines the functions of a paddle and a boat hook in one tool, which is a practical solution especially for smaller inflatable boats where storage space is limited. A separate paddle/boat hook (122cm, black) offers the same dual use without the telescopic feature. Traditional oars (210cm) are suitable for larger inflatable boats that use oar locks for rowing, and an oar guard (45mm, blue) protects the oar blade during storage. An aluminium-shafted paddle (152cm) completes the range as a medium-sized option.

The length of the paddle or oars should be chosen according to the size of the boat – a paddle that is too short will not provide enough leverage for efficient rowing in a larger boat, while a paddle that is too long will be difficult to handle in a small inflatable boat in tight situations. A telescopic model is convenient for storage, but a solid aluminum paddle is typically more durable in continuous use. Always carry at least one paddle or oar with you, even if the boat is primarily powered by a motor.

The rowing properties of a rubber boat are significantly improved with the right size oars – a too short oar forces the rower into an uncomfortable position and reduces leverage, while an oar of the right length enables efficient, fatigue-free rowing movement even over longer distances. A telescopic paddle is particularly popular in smaller rubber boats where storage space is limited – when folded, it takes up significantly less space than a fixed aluminum paddle. The dual use of the Velcro Combi paddle as a paddle and boat hook is a practical solution when the boat is used both for rowing and, for example, for pushing from the dock or pulling another boat close. An oar cover extends the life of the oar blade by protecting it from bumps during storage and transport, which is a useful additional purchase especially for aluminum oars.

Always carry at least one paddle or oar with you, even if the boat is primarily motor-powered.

A telescopic paddle saves valuable storage space in a smaller inflatable boat, while a solid aluminum paddle is typically more durable in continuous use.
