Oars for rowing boats and small boats

Oars are the most important piece of equipment on a rowing boat, and their correct size has a major impact on rowing efficiency and comfort. With properly sized and balanced oars, the boat moves more easily, the rowing position remains natural, and the boat is easier to control.

Our selection includes oars for rowing boats, dinghies and other small boats . In addition to oars, the rowing system includes oar grips, fastening parts and other accessories that help the oars move in a controlled manner and remain in the correct position during rowing.

Correct length of oars

The length of the oars should be chosen according to the width of the boat and the rowing position. Oars that are too short can easily make the pull ineffective and the rower's working position can become heavy. Oars that are too long can be difficult to handle, especially in a narrow or small boat.

A good starting point is to compare new oars to those previously used on the boat or check the boat manufacturer's recommendation. The location and spacing of the oarlocks also affect what size oars work best on the boat.

The blade and shaft of the oars affect the rowing feel

The shape and size of the oar blade affects how much water the oar displaces in one stroke. A wider blade produces more thrust, while a narrower blade may feel lighter during prolonged rowing.

The shaft should be stiff enough, but at the same time comfortable to handle. A well-balanced oar reduces strain on the hands and shoulders and makes rowing smoother. The shape of the handle also affects how the oar feels over time.

Oar wipers and fasteners

Functional oars also need good oar guards and attachments. An oar that doesn't fit the guard can move unevenly, lift out of place, or cause unnecessary wear. Therefore, it's a good idea to check the compatibility of oars and guards before purchasing new parts.

If you are replacing your old oars with new ones, check the condition of the oarlocks, pins, and other fastening parts at the same time. It is a good idea to replace any worn or loose parts at the same time to ensure that the entire rowing system functions properly.

Store and maintain oars properly

It is recommended to store oars in a dry place and away from prolonged moisture and strong sunlight. It is worth monitoring the condition of the surface treatment of wooden oars, as a damaged surface can absorb water and shorten the lifespan of the oar.

Before the boating season, check that there are no cracks, bends or other damage to the oars. Oars in good condition and the right size for your rowing boat make rowing easier, safer and more controlled.
