Brass hose connectors

Brass hose fittings are a reliable and long-lasting choice for hose connections in boat water and fuel systems – brass can withstand saltwater and constant humidity without rusting, making it a more durable alternative to plastic for more permanent installations.

Our selection includes a wide range of sizes and thread types: from the smallest 3/8 inch x 10mm connector to the robust 1¼ inch x 30mm size. Female threaded connectors are available for example in the 3/8 inch 12mm size, and male threaded connectors for larger sizes, such as 1½ inch 38mm and 45mm and 1¼ inch 32mm connectors. There are also mid-size options in between, such as the 3/4 inch 25mm connector and the 1/2 inch 19mm connector, so there is a suitable size for most common hose dimensions.

The most important thing when choosing a hose connector is to ensure that both the thread type (internal or external) and the size are exactly correct for the existing piping or equipment – ??a connector with the wrong size or thread will not seal properly, even if it looks like it fits. When installing a brass connector, it is a good idea to use a suitable sealant or Teflon tape on the threads to ensure that the connection remains tight even when subjected to vibration and temperature fluctuations. Larger, more robust connectors are typically suitable for frame penetrations and main piping, while smaller sizes are common for instruments and smaller pumps.

The thread type of brass hose fittings – internal or external – must be chosen carefully according to the existing piping or valve, as the wrong type of fitting will not fit properly even if the size is correct. The larger 1¼ and 1½ inch fittings are typically intended for main water lines or hull penetrations, while the smaller sizes are suitable for instrument and pump connections. When installing, it is a good idea to use hose clamps on both sides of the fitting and ensure that the hose is pushed deep enough onto the fitting before tightening – installing too low can cause leakage during vibration. Brass is much more resistant to the long-term marine environment than plastic, making it a recommended choice, especially for permanent, difficult-to-check installations.

Always use a suitable sealant or Teflon tape on the threads to ensure a tight connection during vibration and temperature changes.

Larger, sturdier connectors are typically suitable for frame penetrations and main piping, while smaller sizes are common for instrument connections.

An incorrectly sized or threaded fitting will not seal properly, even if it visually appears to fit your plumbing.
