Whale Check Valve for Pressure Water Pump, 13mm Hose

Recommended for you

In the Check Valves section, you will find check valves for boat water and bilge systems that prevent liquid from flowing in the wrong direction in the piping: a 1-inch valve with a strainer, Whale's LV1215 model for 25/38 mm hose, Trudesign's 38 and 32 mm plastic valves, and a brass 1/2 inch valve.

Why is a check valve an important part of a water system?

A check valve allows liquid to flow in only one direction and prevents it from flowing back when the pump stops – without this function, for example, water after the bilge pump could flow back into the bilge after pumping has stopped, which would make pumping ineffective and hide the true amount of water in the bilge.

The valve material should be chosen according to the application: the thermoplastic Trudesign valve is lightweight and corrosion-resistant, making it well-suited for most standard applications, while the brass valve is heavier but very durable and is suitable for applications requiring greater mechanical resistance or higher temperatures.

The valve with a strainer also prevents coarser dirt and debris from entering the pipeline, which reduces the risk of blockages, especially in foot valves and suction side connections. The valve for Whale's pressure water pump is specifically designed to withstand the pressure generated by the pump without the valve itself causing significant flow resistance.

The valve size should be selected carefully according to the inner diameter of the hose or pipe – a valve that is too small will restrict flow and reduce pump efficiency, while a valve that is too large will not fit tightly in the hose and will not function reliably. The installation direction is also important: most valves have a clear flow direction marking, which should be taken into account during installation.

It is a good idea to check the check valve regularly as part of the maintenance of the bilge and water system, as a worn or dirty valve can remain open or closed, which impairs the operation of the entire system just when it is needed most.

The non-return valve used in the seacock is particularly important for safety, as it is often the only barrier to seawater entering the boat, for example in a sink drain pipe – it is always advisable to choose this type of valve from a well-known manufacturer and check it especially carefully before each sailing season, as valve failure can lead to a serious leak.

After installing the valve, it is always a good idea to test the operation by hand before launching the boat into the water – the valve should open easily in the direction of flow and close tightly in the opposite direction without any noticeable leakage in the fully closed position.
