Why are the bow cover and the harbor cover different products?
A bow cover protects only the front of the boat, typically during transport on a trailer or for a short period at the dock, preventing splash water and dirt from entering the bow seats and storage areas without the need to cover the entire boat. A port cover, on the other hand, protects the entire upper hull, engine and cockpit from UV radiation, bird droppings and dust during a longer storage period, for example during the off-season or during a longer dock.
Since the covers are made to fit model and length-specific, it is important to choose a cover that is specifically for your boat's model designation - a cover that is the wrong size will not stay in place in the wind and will not provide effective protection. Suzumar model-specific covers are designed to fit tightly to the contours of the boat using tension straps, which reduces friction and wear of the cover compared to a universal size cover.
The material and method of attachment of the cover directly affect its lifespan: a good quality cover fabric will withstand the brittle effects of UV radiation for years, while drawstrings or straps ensure that the cover does not fly away in windy weather. It is always a good idea to dry the cover before packing it for storage to prevent moisture from causing mold during the winter.
It is also worth noting that the cover should only be installed on a dry and clean boat - dirt and moisture under the cover can cause mold or discoloration on both the surface of the boat and the inside of the cover during a longer storage period. In windy locations, additional fastening, for example to the frame of a trailer or dock structures, reduces the risk of the cover rubbing or coming off completely during a storm.
If you can't find a cover that fits your Suzumar model in the selection, the general-purpose G-Nautics cover in size M is a viable alternative for many medium-sized inflatable boats, although it doesn't fit as precisely as a model-specific cover.
It is worth checking the method of attachment of the cover before ordering: most models are tightened with a rubber band or a knotted cord under the hull, which keeps the cover firmly in place even in moving water at the dock. Regular removal and ventilation of the cover prevents moisture from accumulating inside the boat during a long storage period.
