Hand-sealed drain plug made of plastic.
In the Drain Plugs product group, you will find plugs suitable for boat and inflatable boat drain holes: a 10mm condensate plug in a pair, a brass threaded plug in three sizes (3/8", 1" and 1/4"), a black plastic stern plug (Master, Silver collection) and a bottom plug for the Suzumar 270 inflatable boat.
The drain plug covers the opening at the bottom of the boat's hull from which water is drained during storage or trailering - the plug must fit tightly, as even a small leak can fill the interior of the boat with water over time when the boat is in the water for long periods or during winter storage. Brass threaded plugs are more durable and suitable for fixed, frequently used drain holes, while plastic transom plugs are lighter and common in open motor boats, where the plug is removed while driving to drain water from the rear of the hull. The rubber boat plug (such as for the Suzumar 270 model) is boat model-specific and differs from the plugs for hard-hull boats in both shape and attachment method. The condensation plug is intended for smaller drain holes, from which condensed moisture is removed, for example, from the engine compartment. Always check the exact diameter and thread of the hole before ordering, as a plug of the wrong size will not seal reliably.
The thread type of the screw plug (for example 3/8" or 1") should be carefully checked against the existing installation hole before ordering, as the wrong thread will not screw into place or will not seal reliably. The brass plug withstands repeated opening and closing significantly better than the plastic model, making it the best choice for frequently used drain holes, such as draining the hull water at the beginning of winter storage.
It is a good idea to always check the plug's sealing ring before launching the boat at the beginning of the season - a dried or cracked ring will not seal reliably and can cause a slow, unnoticeable leak. The bottom plug for the Suzumar model is designed to fit the hull material of the specific inflatable boat model.
It is a good idea to always keep spare parts for drain plugs with you on your boat, as it is difficult to replace a lost plug mid-trip without a spare part.
The choice of drain plug material also affects the price – brass models are more expensive but more durable for long-term use, while plastic ones are cheaper for more one-time or seasonal use. Both materials work well when used correctly, so the choice largely depends on frequency of use and budget.
Both types of plugs are inexpensive to purchase, so it makes sense to keep a few spare plugs on your boat just in case.
It is also worth checking these plugs when the boat is lifted onto a trailer, as the vibrations of driving can loosen a poorly attached plug over time.
