In the fender ropes product group you will find ready-made ropes for attaching fenders: Fenderline brand fender rope 6mm 1.5m in anthracite color in a pack of two, Fenderline flat fender rope 8mm 2m in both dark blue, black and gray, and Xmarine brand fender rope 6mm 1.5m in both gray and black, also in packs of two.
The mooring rope attaches the fender to a railing or other anchorage at the correct height to protect the boat from bumps against the dock or other boats – the length and thickness of the rope affect how easily the height of the fender can be adjusted and how reliably it stays in place in the waves. A flat rope (such as Fenderline’s 8mm model) is specially designed to resist twisting, which keeps the fender in a straight position better than a traditional round rope. Packs of two are practical, as most boats use fenders in pairs on both sides. The color should be chosen either to match the look of the boat or for practical reasons – a lighter rope is more visible in low light, while a darker one will get dirty more invisibly. If the fender rope is constantly rubbing against the railing, you should also consider a separate abrasion protector to protect the rope.
Fenderline's flat rope resists twisting better than round rope because its flat cross-section prevents the rope from rotating around its own axis during mooring - this keeps the fender in a straight position for longer without the need for constant adjustment. A pack of two is enough for both mooring points (top and bottom) of one fender, so you typically need two packs for one pair of fenders.
Xmarine is a domestic, more affordable alternative to the Fenderline brand, and both work on the same principle – a rope secures the fender at the desired height on the railing. The length of the rope (1.5m or 2m) should be chosen according to the height of the railing and the desired installation height of the fender, so that there is sufficient adjustment room in both directions.
It is worth checking your hammock rope for wear at the beginning of the season, as UV radiation and constant abrasion gradually weaken the rope over the years.
The correct length of the fender rope depends on the height of the railing and how much you want to adjust the height of the fender in different harbor situations. Xmarine and Fenderline both offer several color options, so you can choose the rope either to match the look of the boat or based on purely practical visibility.
You should also choose the color of the rope based on how easily it can be seen in the dark when arriving at the port.
