In the selection of rollers and roller sets you will find the right roller for every stage of the painting process when painting a boat. Air release rollers (70 mm and 140 mm) remove air bubbles from the paint surface before it dries, and the air release roller with an angle roller (11/40 mm) can reach tight corners and between moldings. The actual painting rollers are available in felt and microfiber surfaces, as well as in full-size (100 mm) and mini-size (150 mm) for smaller areas.
A felt roller spreads paint evenly and is well suited for conventional boat paints and varnishes, while a microfiber roller leaves a smoother, less streaky surface, especially with glossy topcoats — the choice should be made according to the type of paint used and the desired finish. Mini rollers in the 150 mm size are practical for narrower surfaces, moldings and detail painting, while a larger roller speeds up work on wider, flat surfaces such as the sides of the hull.
The choice of roller directly affects the quality of the final result: the wrong type of roller can leave visible marks or absorb the paint unevenly. It is always a good idea to use a venting roller immediately after painting, before the surface starts to dry, so that any air bubbles have time to be removed neatly.
The compatibility of the roller and the type of paint used directly affects the quality of the final result — a felt roller absorbs more paint than a microfiber roller, which can be an advantage with thicker, more opaque primers, but a disadvantage with thinner, flat varnishes, where the smoother mark left by the microfiber is more desirable. When choosing the size of the roller, it is worth considering the shape of the surface to be treated: a larger 100 mm roller speeds up work on large, flat surfaces such as the sides of the body, while a 150 mm mini roller and a venting roller with a corner roller allow for more precise work around the trim, corners and other details of the cover. Using the venting roller immediately after applying the paint, before the surface starts to form a film, is crucial for achieving a neat, bubble-free result — venting done too late can even tear the already slightly dried surface. It is advisable to clean the rollers carefully immediately after use with a solvent suitable for the type of paint used, as it is almost impossible to remove dried paint from the roller fibers afterwards, which significantly shortens the roller's service life.
It is always a good idea to purchase a replacement frame with the roller set so that the roller can be quickly replaced during the painting process without unnecessary interruptions.
The correct roller type is always selected according to the recommendations of the paint manufacturer to ensure the best results.
