Hempel's Primer Undercoat is a fast-drying, high-coverage undercoat and intermediate coat, designed to ensure durability and surface stability in preparation for topcoating with single-component topcoats.

On fiberglass, wood and steel surfaces.
For indoor and outdoor use above the waterline.

Surface preparation:
Remove oil, grease and other contaminants with a suitable detergent.
New building:
Unpainted surface: Sand the surface and remove dust.
New wood: Impregnate a dry and clean surface with a suitable wood impregnation agent and let dry.
Steel: Remove salt and other contaminants by cleaning with (high pressure) fresh water. Remove all rust and loose material by blast cleaning or wire brushing. Remove dust.
Maintenance and Repair: Previously treated surface - Sand, clean and dry the surface. Touch up and sand to achieve a uniform surface profile.
Diffusion:
Thinner: Hempel's Thinner 811 08111.
Application method and tool: Brush, roller, Paint Pad or airless sprayer.
Thinning max. volume 10% brush, roller, Paint Pad; 15% airless spray.
Film thickness, dry: 40 microns [1.6 mils].
Film thickness, wet: 80 microns [3.1 mils].
Theoretical coverage: 12 m²/L [490 sq ft/US gal].
Painting conditions:
Apply only to a dry and clean surface with a temperature at least 3°C ??[5°F] above the dew point, avoiding condensation.
The relative humidity must be below 85% during drying and curing.
Drying and Overpainting:
Touch dry hours: 3 (20°C [68°F]), 6 (10°C [50°F]).
Sanding dry hours: 24.
Overpainting: All masking tape used during paint application must be removed while the coating is still wet.
Notes on overpainting:
If the maximum overcoating time has been exceeded, the surface must be roughened to ensure adhesion.
