In the bilge pump accessories range you will find additional parts essential for the operation of the pump system: a Whale bottom strainer, which prevents debris and sand from entering the pump and clogging it, a Johnson bilge water alarm 12V, which warns of rising water levels before the situation becomes dangerous, and a Seaflo plastic siphon pump for manual emptying. Elbows are available for both 25 and 38 mm hose sizes at a 90 degree angle, and a Johnson Pump strainer filter (40 MESH) and a separate bottom strainer complete the range.

The bottom strainer is one of the most important parts of the pump's life cycle, as unfiltered water carries sand, fibers, and other debris that can get stuck in the pump impeller and cause premature failure. It is a good idea to clean the strainer regularly, especially if the boat has been anchored in a sandy or vegetated water area.

A bilge alarm is a particularly useful accessory for boats that are not constantly manned — it sounds an alarm if the water level in the bilge rises unusually high, which could indicate a leak or a malfunction of the automatic pump. 90-degree elbows allow the hose to be guided even in tight spaces without sharp bends that would impair flow.

When servicing a bilge pump, it is always a good idea to check the entire system from the bottom strainer to the hoses, not just the pump itself — a clogged strainer forces the pump to work harder than normal, which significantly shortens its service life, even if the pump itself is completely intact. It is a good idea to test the bilge alarm battery (12V) regularly, as the alarm will be useless just when it is needed most if the battery has run down unnoticed during long winter storage. 90-degree elbows are especially useful in tight bilge spaces, where the hose would otherwise have to bend sharply — a sharp bend significantly reduces the flow and can cause the hose to break at the bend over time. It is a good idea to choose a Johnson Pump strainer with the right mesh size (for example, 40 MESH) according to the application: a filter that is too dense will clog quickly, while one that is too thin will allow debris through, which can damage the pump impeller itself.

It is advisable to check all parts of the pump system together during maintenance, as replacing a single part does not always correct the operation of the entire system.

Keeping spare parts on board the boat speeds up repairs if any part of the pump system suddenly fails in the middle of the sailing season.

It is worth checking the compatibility of the parts with other components in the system before ordering so that the entire pump system works flawlessly together.
