Lifebuoy holders always keep the lifebuoy within easy reach and visible – in an emergency, seconds matter, so the lifebuoy should be found attached in the same familiar place every time, not loose in a cabin box.
Nawa is a Finnish safety equipment manufacturer whose rack collection includes versions suitable for both round lifebuoys and horseshoe-shaped models. Nawa's round lifebuoy rack (19504) and horseshoe rack (19501) are basic models, which are also available in a version with an integrated light holder (19503) - this is a particularly useful solution, as the light always remains attached to the ring and automatically goes out when thrown. A separate light holder (19505) is suitable if the rack has already been purchased without a light feature. The round throw line rack keeps the throw line organized and quickly ready for use. The range also includes a horseshoe railing bracket for mounting directly to the railing, as well as a simpler stainless steel holder and a separate light holder.
The location of the holder should be chosen so that the lifebuoy can be removed in one movement without knots or locks, and that it is clearly visible from both deck and water in an emergency. The model that is attached to the railing is practical for most motor and sailing boats, while the vertical holder is well suited for larger vessels where there is space for an actual holder structure. The model with a light holder is especially recommended if the boat is also used at dusk or in the dark.
The method of attaching the lifebuoy holder should be chosen according to the structure of the boat: the model that is attached to the railing is quick to install without drilling, while the screw-mounted model is more sturdy but requires a fixed mounting point on the boat deck or cabin wall. The holder with the Nawa light holder is a particularly practical solution, as a separate light and ring can easily get lost in the rush of an emergency if they are not physically attached to the same holder. It is worth checking the compatibility of the lifebuoy and the holder before ordering – round and horseshoe-shaped rings require a different holder model, and they are not interchangeable on the same holder. The placement of the holder on the deck or railing should be planned so that it is not in the way of normal movement but is still quickly accessible in an emergency.
Always choose the model of the stand according to the shape of the lifebuoy, as the round and horseshoe models are not interchangeable.
A model with a light holder is especially recommended if the boat is also used regularly at dusk or in the dark.
