The Harken Micro block series is the manufacturer's smallest block class, designed for small sailboats, dinghies and dinghies, as well as for light steering lines on larger boats, such as compass lights or flag lines. The range includes single blocks (H224), blocks with a hunsvot or mooring loop (H225), and double and triple blocks (H226–H229) for steering multiple lines from the same point, as well as a horizontal Micro block (H233) for tight installation spaces.
The Micro series is characterised by its compact, lightweight frame and rotating bearing technology, which keeps friction low even with thin 3-5 mm ropes. This makes it a popular choice for controlling optimist dinghies, trim lines on small boats, and auxiliary and light lines on larger boats, such as VHF antenna lifting lines or transom light adjustments. The model with a hunsvot is particularly suitable as an attachment point at the end of the rope without a separate loop.
Choose a single block for straight line control, a double block when you want to fold two lines in different directions from the same point, and a triple block for more complex trim systems. All Micro blocks are compatible with Harken's other small block range, such as Micro crab locks and their riser blocks, so the entire control system remains in the same size class and mechanically compatible without unnecessary oversizing.
When considering the choice of a Micro series block, it is worth first determining the thickness of the rope and the load passing through the block — a block that is too small in relation to the rope will wear out quickly and slow down movement, while an oversized block will add unnecessary weight to a lightweight system. A model with a hunsvot should be chosen whenever the block is used as a rope attachment point and not just a control point — without a hunsvot, the rope must be attached separately, for example with a knot or a separate shackle. When installing, it is a good idea to ensure that the attachment point can withstand several times the load passing through the block, as at the bending point the actual load on the rope at the attachment point can be significantly greater than the tension of the rope alone. Thanks to the bearing-mounted frame, Micro blocks operate lightly even in cold weather, but it is still worth regularly checking that no sand or salt crystals have entered the bearings, which can increase friction and wear over time. A triple block is worth considering especially when several light auxiliary ropes are guided from the same point, as it saves space compared to three separate single blocks.
Micro series blocks are delivered with pre-greased bearings at the factory, so they are ready for installation without any separate maintenance before first use.
All Micro series models are available in both a simple hull color and different mounting methods, so there is a suitable solution for most small boat steering systems.
