Rope packages – pre-sized lifting rope
In the Rope Packages product group, you can find pre-cut and knotted ropes for a specific purpose without having to measure and cut the rope yourself – for example, the Globe 5000 mk3 lifting rope made of dyneema material in both 8mm/30m and 10mm/35m dimensions. The ready-made package saves time during installation and ensures that the length and thickness of the rope are already dimensioned in advance for its typical purpose.
The halyard is attached to the upper corner of the sail and runs inside or outside the mast to raise and lower the sail – dyneema is popular for this purpose as it stretches significantly less than traditional polyester rope, allowing the sail to maintain its height and trim even in stronger winds without constant re-tensioning. The thicker 10mm option is suitable for larger boats or heavier sails, while 8mm is sufficient for lighter boat sizes.
Before ordering, check the size of your mast grommets and blocks so that the selected rope thickness can pass through them without hindrance – a rope that is too thick can get stuck or wear out prematurely in a narrow grommet. The advantage of a ready-made rope package is especially emphasized when the rope is needed quickly – for example, if the old hoist rope breaks in the middle of the season, the pre-sized and knotted package is immediately ready for installation without the need to separately measure, cut and burn the ends of the rope to prevent excessive wear. The Globe 5000 mk3 rope is also coated so that it slides well in the internal guides and blocks of the mast.
If your mast is of a special size or you need a rope for something other than lifting, such as a halyard or flagpole, you should consider buying a rope sold by the metre instead of a ready-made package – then you can choose the length and knotting to suit your needs. However, the ready-made packages are designed to cover the most common boat sizes directly without any separate measuring work, making them a quick solution for replacing a conventional lifting rope.
The Dyneema material of the rope pack is highly resistant to UV radiation, but prolonged exposure to sunlight will still weaken the fiber over the years, so it is a good idea to check the condition of the rope regularly for wear and fragility, especially in visible, sunny sailing areas. Note the length of the finished package when purchasing so you know exactly what length of replacement rope is needed next time.
