In the Shaft Anodes product group, you will find zinc anodes that can be attached around the propeller shaft, regardless of the engine brand, in several diameters: 25mm, 30mm (narrow model), 35mm, 45mm, 50mm and 60mm.

Unlike Volvo Penta, Mercury or other brand-specific anodes, the shaft anode is a universal part that fits any engine brand as long as the propeller shaft diameter matches — making it a convenient solution for inboard boats and outboard motors where the shaft itself is outside the anode shield of the engine frame. The anode is tightened around the shaft with two screws without having to remove the shaft.

The correct size is determined by the accurately measured shaft diameter — measure the shaft with a diameter gauge before ordering, as an anode that is too loose will not stay in place and one that is too tight may damage the shaft surface during installation. The narrow model is suitable for situations where there is less free space on the shaft, for example near the bearing housing or propeller.

The shaft is particularly susceptible to galvanic corrosion because it is constantly rotating in the water and is in direct contact with both water and other metal parts. Check the condition of the shaft anode at the same time as the other anodes, and remember that docking is the easiest time to replace a worn anode with a new one without additional diving or lifting.

Some models also have an aluminum version available instead of the traditional zinc — choose the material according to the same principle as other anodes: zinc for saltwater, aluminum for brackish and freshwater. It is worth checking the tightness of the mounting screws a few times during the season, as vibration can loosen them over long periods of use.

It is always a good idea to check the shaft anode while the boat is in dry dock for other maintenance — this is the most practical and quickest time to replace a worn anode without having to lift or dive just for the anode.

Consider purchasing an extra shaft anode as a spare if your boat is away from home port for long periods of time — quick replacements along the way are only possible if you already have the right size on hand.

Measure the shaft diameter accurately with a caliper before ordering, as even a small measurement error can result in an incorrectly sized, poorly fitting anode.

Keep the anode mounting screws clean and rust-free so they can be easily removed for the next replacement.

Ask for advice on choosing the right size if the axle diameter falls between two available standard sizes.
