Hempel Light Primer is a solvent-based, 2-component, thick-film epoxy paint that provides strong and durable protection for fiberglass, steel, aluminum and plywood surfaces. It creates an effective moisture barrier on the boat hull and prevents rust formation. An excellent anti-rust paint, especially suitable for use above and below the waterline.
Product description:
Hempel Light Primer is designed to form a hard, abrasion, water and fuel resistant surface. Its thick film provides protection against corrosion and effectively prevents rust formation. Recommended for use above and below the waterline on a variety of boats.
Run:
Brush application: 6 hours
Spray painting: 2 hours (at 20°C)
Mixing ratio: 2:1 (Base 45559 : Hardener 95360)
Product safety:
Flash point: 24°C [75°F]
VOC content, mixed product: EU 434 g/L [3.62 lb/US gal]

Surface Preparation:
Remove oil, grease and dirt with a suitable detergent.
Use Hempel Pre-Clean.
Unpainted surface: Sand the surface and remove dust.
Plywood: Seal the dry and clean surface with wood pore varnish.
Steel: Remove salt and contaminants by cleaning with fresh water. Remove rust and loose material by blast cleaning or wire brushing. Remove dust.
Stainless steel, aluminum and other non-ferrous metals: use non-metallic blasting media (corundum, granite, etc.).
Application method:
Brush/Roller: Thin by 5% if necessary. Not applicable.
Airless spray: Thin 5%, nozzle pressure 175 bar [2500 psi], recommended tip: 0.019-0.023".
Film thickness:
Recommended dry 100 microns [3.9 mils], wet 200 microns [7.9 mils].
Painting conditions:
Apply only to a dry, clean surface with a temperature at least 3°C ??[5°F] above the dew point.
Surface temperature must be above 10°C [50°F] during application and curing.
The relative humidity must be below 85% during drying and curing.
Drying and Overpainting:
Touch dry 6 hours (10°C) / 3 hours (20°C)
Hard dry 12 hours (10°C) / 6 hours (20°C)
Overcoating times:
Hempel Underwater Primer 26030: 2 hours - 8 hours
Hempel Silic One Tiecoat: 65 min - 4 hours
Hempel Nexus II 27400: 8 hours - 63 hours
Storage:
Shelf life: 36 months
Storage conditions: Maximum 35°C [95°F], protected from direct sunlight, rain and snow.
