The Optima blue top battery is a deep discharge-resistant starter battery specially designed for boat use. It withstands shocks caused by boat rocking and waves better than a conventional battery. The leak-proof Blue Top battery can be installed in any position; even upside down. Thanks to its low self-discharge, the battery is well suited for seasonal use.
Optima lead-acid batteries are used as starter and backup batteries. The batteries are based on Optima's Spiralcell TechnologyTM structure, where the cells are in roll form instead of the traditional plate technology. The electrolyte is bound to a fiberglass mat separating the rolled lead plates. This creates a completely sealed, maintenance-free, vibration-resistant structure. The internal resistance of the battery is very low, approximately 3m, so Optima batteries provide a very high starting current. Fast charging with a current of up to 300A is possible. Optima batteries have a lifespan of 3-5 times that of a standard lead-acid battery. The batteries are suitable for use in a wide temperature range of – 40°C… +60°C. The range includes models suitable for both starting and deep discharge applications.
Operating and charging instructions Do not let the battery discharge below 10.8V
Do not overcharge the battery – max terminal voltage 13.0V
If the battery is discharged (below 11V), charging must be carried out with 2-3A and at least 14 hours.
The charging voltage in the car should be between 13.8V and 14.8V.
Basic charge 12V / 10-25A, 4-8 hours, preferably with a programmed charger
Trickle charge 13.2-13.8V, max current 1.2A
Fast charging – max voltage 15.6V, no current limit when battery does not heat up above 50C. Stop when current has dropped below 1A
Be careful not to short-circuit the battery.
If the battery is not in continuous use, charge it regularly (4 times a year)
The battery's max cold/heat ratings are between -40C and +60C
The battery life is longest when the battery is charged according to the instructions and its use is continuous and consistent.
