Hempel's Favourite Varnish is a clear, full gloss urethane alkyd varnish that provides a high gloss, fine finish. This one-component varnish is easy to apply and very hard wearing. It is particularly suitable for traditional wooden boats and fibreglass boats with a lot of wooden parts on the deck. The product contains a UV filter, making it an excellent choice for ensuring resistance to seawater, sunlight and harsh climatic conditions.
Recommended use:
New and previously varnished wood surfaces above the waterline, inside and outside.

Flash point: 38°C [100°F].
VOC content (398 g/L): Meets EU requirements.
Handling:
Handle with care. Follow the warning and safety labels on the packaging and paint containers.

Surface Preparation:
Remove oil, grease and other contaminants with a suitable detergent.
Unpainted surface: Sand the surface and remove dust.
New wood: Impregnate a dry and clean surface with a suitable wood impregnation agent and let dry.
Plywood: Seal the dry and clean surface with a suitable wood pore varnish.
Teak: Remove grease from the surface with a suitable degreaser.
The surface must be dry and clean before application.
The moisture content must be below 16%.
Diffusion:
Thinner: Hempel's Thinner 811.
Application method: Brush, Paint Pad, sprayer.
Thinning max. 20%.
Film thickness, dry: 30 microns [1.2 mils].
Drying and Overpainting:
Drying conditions: Apply only to dry and clean surfaces, at least 3°C ??[5°F] above dew point.
The relative humidity must be below 85% during drying and curing.
Dry to touch hours: 8 (10°C [50°F]), 4 (20°C [68°F]).
Hard dry hours: 10 (10°C [50°F]), 5 (20°C [68°F]).
Notes on overpainting:
If the maximum overcoating time has been exceeded, the surface must be roughened to ensure adhesion.
The surface must be clean before overpainting.
Storage:
Shelf life: Product 60 months from date of manufacture.
Storage conditions: Store in accordance with local regulations, at a temperature of 5°C [41°F], protected from direct sunlight, rain and snow.
