Thermostat Volvo Penta D31–D300

The thermostat is a key part of the engine's cooling system. Its job is to regulate the engine's operating temperature . A faulty thermostat can cause the engine to overheat or, alternatively, to run too cold. Both situations are harmful: overheating can cause serious damage, and running too cold increases wear and fuel consumption.

Thermostat check

You can test the thermostat by heating it in water and checking whether it opens at the correct temperature . If there is any uncertainty about its operation, it is best to replace the thermostat with a new one.
