In the Engine Paints product group, you will find touch-up paints that match the original colors of outboard motors — the M-Protect Spray series colors include Evinrude/Johnson blue and white, Honda Silver metallic (2012-> models), and Honda gold-silver metallic for older engines, for engines with an almost black tone, and for coating with clearcoat.

The outboard motor shell is constantly exposed to UV rays, salt water, and bumps when being trailered — scratches and dents are not just a cosmetic problem, as the bare metal surface quickly begins to corrode in salt water. Using the right color shade that matches the engine make and model year is important for both protection and resale value: the wrong shade will immediately stand out from the side of the engine and can detract from the overall appearance of the entire boat by significantly more than the cost of the repair itself.

Successful touch-up begins with surface preparation: degreasing the scratch and its surroundings, lightly sanding to remove sharp edges, and drying the surface before applying the paint. Spray paint is applied in thin layers from a distance of 20–30 cm, several thin layers give a better result than one thick one — a thick layer is prone to sags and dries unevenly. A clear coat on top provides additional protection and a shine that matches the appearance of the factory paint.

Allow the paint to dry completely before operating the engine — complete curing typically takes several days, although surface drying occurs more quickly. Always check the engine label or manufacturer's information for the exact model year and color shade before ordering, as the same engine brand may have changed shades over the years — ordering the wrong shade is the most common mistake in this product group.

It is also worth remembering that the shade of engine paint can vary slightly between batches, so painting the entire shell with the same can gives a more consistent result than making several small patches in different purchases. Always store the paint can upright, in a cool place and out of direct sunlight — this will prevent the nozzle from clogging and the paint from drying out prematurely in the can, and the can will last for several smaller touch-ups in the future.

If the original shade of the engine is unclear, for example in an old used boat, it is worth taking a color sample with you or comparing several shade options in a small test area before doing the entire retouching, so that the end result matches the engine's current, possibly slightly faded, original shade as closely as possible.

If necessary, ask customer service for advice if you are not completely sure about the right shade — a little advance check often saves you an extra order and waiting time compared to ordering and returning the wrong shade.
