Alignment tool MerCruiser Alpha and Bravo
Genuine MerCruiser alignment tool for aligning the engine and drivetrain. The tool is used to check and adjust engine alignment and when replacing the thrust bearing. Proper alignment is essential to ensure long life of the drivetrain, driveshaft and bearings.
The tool should slide easily into the shield, support bearing and engine flywheel coupling. The inner ring of the support bearing can be adjusted slightly with a feeler gauge. If the tool still does not slide easily into place, the engine mounting feet should be adjusted. Lightly greasing the tool will help you see where the alignment is and how to adjust the engine.
When removing the drive, it may be necessary to adjust the engine, especially if the drive is difficult to remove. The engine feet may sag over time, so raising them may make removal easier.
A well-aligned engine prevents damage to the drive shaft and protects the support bearing.
